Description and comments: "Cid Campeador Lancing another bull."  According to Moratin (in the book Carta historica sobre el origen y progreso de las fiestas de toros en Espana) "Cid Campeador was the first man to lance bulls on horseback", which feat Goya attributes to Moor Gazul in his engraving number 5 of La Tauromaguia.  The Cid and Gazul lived in the second half of the 11th century and their respective legends do not throw light on this point.  Goya has interpreted both cases with identical arbitrariness, though he provide the Cid with a greater skill, representing him in the moment of picking the bull in the modern manner and not using both hands as i the case with Gazul.
Black and white tones of presentation image may vary slightly from original.
