Description and comments: "Charles V lancing a bull at the Valladolid bullring."Here, as in other plates of this series, Goya would seem to limit himself to illustrate the book Carta historica sobre el origen y progreso de las fiestas de toros en Espana which was published by Nicolas Fernandez de Moratin.  It reads: Emperor Charles V himself killed a bull wit his lance at the ring of Valladolid, to commemorate the birth of his son King Philip II".  Goya reproduced the idea without having previously studied the event."
