Comments: The monkey has in the art of many cultures been a stand-in for humans, showing us in our stupidity and foolishness. The print depicts a poet with Quill in hand, a rag around the shoulders and covering his nakedness with a manuscript, the poet reads the critique of the housekeeper as shown at the door , Weak, Weak, Weak.  Both are humanly dressed monkeys but the cat on the table is a natural state of being.  Thomas Landseer, the brother of the more famous Sir Edwin Landseer, produced a series of 25 plates in the 1820’s showing monkeys engaged in various human pursuits, showing how humans are prone to behave like animals, rather than the other way around.
