Comments: Reineke Fuchs is the main character in a poem in verse and prose, tradition to the European Middle Ages whose adventures were told in multiple European countries during the Middle Ages. These moral tales featured Reynard the Fox as the crafty man on the make, often ignoble and even murderous, but no less so than those in authority over him like the King (lion), the Bishop (panther), priest (sheep) and all other types of medieval authority represented by some suitable animal.
The print depicts Reynard, pretending to be reformed, seizes Puss the Rabbit by the throat while teaching the young animals.
