Comments: The monkey has in the art of many cultures been a stand-in for humans, showing us in our stupidity and foolishness. Print is the subject of a duel at a time this practice was being discouraged within polite English society.The June 1839 edition of The Sporting Review said of this print “The coloring and effect of this plate come as near painting as anything can be conceived“.
As a Chromolithograph it appears in one of the first years (1838) that the process was introduced in Britain.
